The Bridget Nesko Ovarian Cancer Hospice Equity Program
While Bridget Nesko neared the end of her life, she and her family were supported through her final journey with quality home hospice care. Costs for that service – a “gold standard of quality care” – were not inexpensive, but were mostly covered by private medical insurance.
Unfortunately, not all ovarian cancer victims or their families and caregivers have access to such financial coverage, or to the quality hospice care they deserve. In fact, some ovarian cancer sufferers have no family or caregivers, and travel their final journey alone, with minimal medical support.
With the assistance of one of the leading hospice care providers in the greater Delaware Valley area (Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Northern Delaware), Bridget’s Foundation is currently conducting a study to evaluate implementation of the Bridget Nesko Ovarian Cancer Hospice Equity Program.
Through this Program, ovarian cancer victims and the caregivers could receive quality home or in-facility palliative or end of life care with financial and personal support of the Foundation. While Medicare and Medicaid may cover certain costs for hospice care – and a number of hospice care providers deliver those services at the reduced financial allowances offered by those programs, the services received may not be as comprehensive as those provided to Bridget. As a deeply caring registered nurse and healthcare provider – it is in Bridget’s name and legacy that we evaluate enacting this program as part of her Foundation.
Foundation Project Team leaders hope to launch a limited “pilot program”, that would include access to both financial and human companion support for patients and their caregivers by 2026.
Workstreams and project teams are being finalized now to undertake this program. If you have an interest in supporting this initiative financially, or in working with our Project Teams to help shape and launch this program, please contact us at (856) 595 2184.
